Rooms acoustics assessment and reverberation analysis – Electro-Acoustics
We were asked to produce a detailed report on the acoustics of the venue. We know the room well and had previously designed and installed a high end distributed sound system in the space to enable speeches and events to be heard clearly by the audience. This is a substantial old venue with challenging acoustics and a strict client policy on what can be done acoustically without encroaching on the impressive architecture in the space.
We carried out a number of reverberation tests to BS3382-1:2009 standards which formed the basis of the report which showed how the room acoustics were behaving and also compared the results to data from other performance spaces such as the Symphony Hall and the Albert Hall.
A number of design ideas were presented to tackle the reverberation issues with minimal architectural changes in combination with a review of the current amplification system specifically to enhance speech intelligibility within the space.
